Cell Phone Technology : What is a Cell Phone?

Before going too far, let us explore first the heart of this blog : Cell Phone. What exactly is a Cell Phone and how does it work?

A Cell Phone, a mobile telephone, is actually a radio. Now, a radio or a walkie-talkie uses half-duplex frequency : that is why only one person can talk at a time. A Cell Phone uses a full duplex frequency, meaning both the caller and the one who received the call can talk at the same time.

A cell phone uses a cellular network of base stations called cell sites, hence, the name Cell Phone.

Cell Phone Technology - SIM

What is a SIM?
The SIM(Subscriber Identification/Identity Module) card - a.k.a. "smart card" - holds all of a subscriber's personal information and phone settings. In essence, it is the subscriber's authorization to use the network. It also holds the phone number, personal security key and other data necessary for the handset to function. The card can be switched from phone to phone, letting the new phone receive all calls to the subscriber's number.
